the analysis experience

This too much work will kill my creativity. I thought so. But I realised the creativity should still follow certain rules, failure of which may result in a disaster.

Again I thought very big, then I said hang on , maybe start small to avoid cumbersome process before I get the grip. Finally it became clear to me, below is my journey for the week, but please don't ask me where I am, all I know is I am on the right road.

Experience and past  studies have showed that clinical nurses in Lesotho are not taught how to make clinical learning happen, but on graduation they are expected to facilitate learning. God knows how they do it. It is such a frustrating experience to some of them they end up quitting. I had a chat with some of them and they showed an interest and a need to learn about clinical teaching. With time being a limited factor, they prefer distance learning mediated by cellphone since its the one easily accessible. Opps further digging suggested a mission impossible task, but maybe for the future it will work.
Without destroying my creativity, I realised that using the computer and cellphone students can learn performing a wound dressing with an opportunity to analyse their performance, and the instructors getting an opportunity to review the videos and give comprehensive feedback. Students think that they don't get to return demonstrate many skills to their instructors because they are many in number, so they think the video  feedback will do the trick. I thought deeply about this and the more I think about it, the more  I get excited about its prospects.

There is of perpetual feedback to students on their skills, students like it. Content is readily available, the technical expertise required is photographing that can be worked around and resources seem to accessible.

I will give it some more thought when the excitement is gone.

  1. Hi Taka
Glad to hear you have some creativity left after these two years!! It seems as if cellphones are the way to go with some students not having easy internet access with pcs away from campus. Also looking at that but hardly creative at this stage I'm afraid.
    Good luck!

  2. Hey Taka. I like your idea. Its practical, accessible and I think it would be user-friendly too. Students can use the feedback to reflect and improve on their skills. I think if students find this user-friendly, it may increase their chances of reaching their clinical objectives.

    1. Cellphones are defnitely the way to go for students. It was also evident when our campus started to make use of the bulk sms system to students to communicate important events, reminders, dates and feedback. It is also effective with regards to "spreading the news", as I found that you can send the sms to one student at a particular clinical facility and all students in that clinical facility will know exactly what was communicated and will quickly communicate with the cmapus to investigate why they did not receive the sms. It also ensures that students take the responsibiity to make sure that the campus and lecturer are informed about contact details changes, because if they do not do that, they loose out on communication from the campus. Furthermore is the evidence of communication to the students captured on the campus data system. It is very userfriendly and the lecturers and administrative staff can freely make use of this cost-effective system Good luck.
